23 Bible Verses About Betrayal

Who betrayed Jesus? In our Breaking Free Bible study, we are learning about betrayal. We examine the original 12 disciples and the one who betrayed Jesus. His name is Judas Iscariot. In the Holy Bible, all four gospels tell the eyewitness account of when Judas betrayed Jesus. Facts, not fiction.

From a worldview definition, betrayal means a violation of someone’s trust or confidence (Merriam-Webster). You can find many articles and podcasts explaining the topic of betrayal.

Open your Bible and you will find several verses about betrayal, including verses about the disciple who betrayed Jesus. In original biblical language when Jesus spoke (John 13:21) betray means to deliver up, judge, punush, put to death, and condemn. Here are a few of these verses.

They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. 2 Timothy 3:1-4 NLT
