Find the good news that brings hope and spiritual renewal.

We live in a world full of bad news. The media recounts stories of natural disasters, violence, and conflict. In the midst of all this heartbreak, we can’t lose sight of the fact that God has given us good news. We call it the gospel. It reminds us that God loves us and longs to redeem our suffering. He stepped out of eternity and into time to send us His one and only Son. The gospel truths shared with the early church at Rome echo into our day, reminding us that we still have good news to embrace personally and to share with others. In this six-week study of the Book of Romans, we will be highlighting significant concepts regarding the good news about faith, grace, daily life, God’s plan, relationships, and eternity. Whatever bad news we may receive, in Romans we will find good news to encourage and transform us.

Learn to seek peace in times of difficulty and express your emotions to God

Examine the Book of Psalms and you will learn how these writers found strength in hard times. They celebrated in good times. They connected with God through prayer. The Psalm writers did not always use language of encouragement. Sometimes they expressed their bitterness and raw hurts. And so we can too. Sometimes it’s okay, to be vulnerable, so God can restore our peace. Learn how in your study of Psalms

SOAP Bible Study Method

SOAP is a method of Bible reading which follows this format. Many will use a journal, colorful pens, and creative worship. Others will keep it simple with a sheet of paper and write one paragraph for each of these four parts:
  • Scripture – Read a Psalm and write down a verse or two that captures your attention.
  • Observation – What are your personal observations from this Scripture?
  • Application – How does it apply to your everyday life? What can you do to apply this in your life today?
  • Prayer – Write a personal prayer based on your observation and application.

These are optional resources, our discussion questions will be based solely on the Book of Psalms. These are NOT required for the study. Use the Bible and a SOAP study method (we will teach this), or a commentary/study Bible method, or the Beth Moore workbook if you like a daily lesson format.

It's Momplicated

Course Description
Mother and Daughter relationships are imprints upon our hearts. And so we look at these through the lens of the Bible. During this Bible study about relationships we discover the power of transformation in the strongest of bonds.

The mother-daughter relationship is complicated, rich, beautiful, and sometimes painful.

Whether your relationship with your mom has been wonderful or stressful, redeemed or broken, close or nonexistent, it’s one of your life’s most important and defining connections. Its effects have probably followed you into adulthood.

And yet it can be difficult to fully understand why it is that way. Why can’t we readily identify what needs to be fixed? Why is it so difficult to process the ways in which we’ve been hurt? How can we break the cycle of pain, become healthier, and move forward?

Written from the joint perspective of a family therapist and a women’s ministry leader, It’s Momplicated will show you how God’s love can help heal the wounds of your relational past―encouraging you to have compassion on yourself, offer forgiveness to your mother, and write a new story for your future.

Required Book (not included)

Alsdorf, Debbie and Joan Edwards Kay. It’s Momplicated: Hope and Healing for Imperfect Daughters of Imperfect Mothers. Tyndale Momentum, 2018.

When you hear the word mother, what happens? Do you get a rush of love or a flare of anger? Does it conjure a pleasant memory or a painful flashback?

Maybe you feel guilty for even picking up this book. After all, in a lot of ways your mother is great. But for some reason, after talking to her, you are tense and irritable.

The effects of your mother-daughter relationship have probably followed you into adulthood.

If you have conflicting feelings toward mom―or if you wish you could get past some of the baggage that holds you back―this is your book. Combining spiritual disciplines and the best of current therapeutic practice, It’s Momplicated will help you discover

  • How your early connection with your mother may have impacted your sense of self and your other important relationships―and what you can do to break the cycle
  • Why you and your mother have the relationship you have―the underlying reasons that may be contributing to strain and unease
  • Tools and exercises to help you cope with some of the most common effects of a broken relationship, including anxiety, depression, lack of confidence, and trust issues
  • How to be the daughter and mother God wants you to be even if your mom wasn’t who you needed her to be.

It’s never too late to love, never too late to heal, and never too late to trust God to turn the pain in your story into a redemption song. As you read It’s Momplicated, you’ll realize that while God doesn’t promise to fix all your circumstances, He does promise to uphold you and lead you to a healing place of knowing you are truly precious and loved, no matter how your past has affected you.

It’s Momplicated by Debbie Alsdorf and Joan Edwards Kay

This is a HOT topic on generational relationships and how they impact our lives today. Debbie Alsdorf and Joan Edwards Kay discussed Its Momplicated on the Today Show and as Debbie often says, “It’s not about me it’s bigger than that!”

The book gives women courage to address their mother-daughter relationships and ignite healing.
