Jesus Calling Family Devotional: 100 Devotions for Families to Enjoy Peace in His Presence by Sarah Young
A devotional book written in conversational format for families, this is a good resource for teaching God’s character to the next generation. The page layout includes an adults devotional on the left page and a corresponding kids devotional on the right page. Adults have an additional resource “read together” so they can reference related passages of Scripture in their Bibles. Kids have a “talk together” resource to help them apply the devotion to their life.
The format of speaking “I, Me, My and Mine” might be confusing for younger kids as they conceptualize if the adult is speaking or how God is “speaking.” This is where storytelling methods are useful.
Jesus Calling Family Devotional is a well-crafted book, the binding is sewn rather than glued. Bookmark is a white ribbon tucked away on page 72 of my copy. Pages are colorful. Final pages are advertisements and there’s no sense of “closing” when the 100th devotion is read. Perhaps in future versions adding a checkbox or sticker page…something where kids can see their progress… would be added value.
